about the architect
John Henry was inspired as a youth walking through the ancient cities of Asia Minor, Italy, Greece and France ... from the legacy of hand worked stone temples by the Greeks and Romans to the sumptuous Renaissance villas, chateaux and palaces that later generations built based on the same vocabulary - and inventively changed for modern circumstances.
Classical architecture has never died but either at times has been forgotten, revived, and even reviled.
Nobility and important political figures adopted its mantle and made exemplary the 'code' for all to admire and emulate. Succeeding generations have likewise adapted and incorporated the language of the ancients into their public and private buildings. Unfortunately academia has not passed this important heritage successfully to modern architects. And for John Henry it has been a 20 year odyssey to observe, research, and perfect the 'correct' rules of classical design.
Today's means and methods offer advantages that previous builders and architects never imagined. The look of handworked materials can be duplicated with synthetics and the 'bang for the buck' has never been more economically attained. While certain aspects of constructing the classical home cannot change, much can be done with classically correct premanufactured trim and moldings.
Above all is the notion that proportions from the whole to the minute govern the entire composition inside and out.

Adison Mizner once said that 'the whole of architecture is in the proportions'.
